Program Description:
The School Psychology program is designed to train future leaders in the field of school psychology through the development and evaluation of best practices that can be applied to service both children and the community. Decisions that are made in the provision of these services must be based on empirical research that support these decisions, and must be conducted within a problem-solving model. In addition to approaching consultation, assessment, and intervention from a behavioral framework, the program also emphasizes the contextual influences of family, community, and culture in the problem-solving process. Operating from a broad understanding of diversity, the program in school psychology is strongly committed to providing students with a knowledge and experimental basis in multicultural perspectives. This program is a national leader in the development of university faculty for school psychology programs, in the innovation of bringing research to practice, and in advancing the delivery of psychological services to educational, health, and community settings.
