Program Description:

The primary goal for our master's program is the training of competent speech-language pathologists who will critically evaluate communication disorders and the methods used in the habilitation and rehabilitation of those disorders.

The Speech-Language Pathology program requires:
* 13 courses in the different disorders of speech, language, and swallowing
* two courses in normal processes
* one course in research methodology
* either a thesis or non-thesis option

The Au.D. degree in audiology is offered through the Northeast Au.D. Consortium, a joint effort of Kent State University, the University of Akron, and the Cleveland Clinic, and is the largest 4-year, residential Au.D. program in the country. See the NOAC website for details.

Speech Pathology and Audiology at Kent State University offers a highly flexible program of study leading to the Ph.D. degree in either speech-language pathology or in audiology. This flexibility allows students to create a program that meets their needs with emphases ranging from primarily clinical and applied to basic research.
General Structure of the Program:
* a major area of study (24 semester hours)
* two minor areas of study (total of 15 semester hours)
* research tools (6 semester hours)
* a project-in-lieu-of-thesis for those students who did not complete a master's thesis
* candidacy examinations
* dissertation

Accreditation:

Both the M.A. program in Speech-Language Pathology and the Au.D. program in Audiology are accredited programs through the American Speech, Language, & Hearing Association (ASHA).
