Program Description:
Kean University's Psy.D. Program in Combined School and Clinical Psychology places equal emphasis on both research and clinical training. The hybrid design of the program enables students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to practice in a variety of applied settings. In addition to extensive clinical training, students are given the opportunity to engage in research throughout all years of the program, thus advancing the profession through scientific and scholarly contributions. They are also expected to acquire basic and advanced competencies in School Psychology and Clinical Psychology, culminating in eligibility for appropriate certification and licensure.
During this 5-year program, students will develop core professional competencies, with emphasis on assessment, intervention, research and scientific inquiry, diversity, leadership, and the professional relationship, among others. In addition to coursework, students will complete externships in both clinical and school psychology, with the option to complete a third externship during their fourth year. Students will also complete a dissertation and an internship before becoming eligible to receive their Psy.D. in Combined School and Clinical Psychology.
