Program Description:
The program is divided into four stages providing you as a student with
the necessary prerequisites (Stage I: Introduction), to give you a solid
background on the most important topics within the wide and diverse
fi eld of Optics & Photonics (Stage II: Core Subjects) and to let you acquire
specialized knowledge in one of the four research areas (Stage III:
Specialization) to be able to competently perform a six-month research
project on a current topic of research (Stage IV: Masters Thesis). In addition,
an 8-weeks industrial internship is scheduled between stages II and III.
Admission requirements
In order to be admitted to the M.Sc. Program in Optics & Photonics, the
following requirements are necessary:
• Appropriate qualifi cation for university entrance (e.g. Abitur, High School
Diploma, Bac.)
• Above average Bachelor degree or an equivalent degree in the fi eld
of science or engineering. Permitted study courses are Optics & Photonics,
physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering,
biology (with mathematics as a minor subject), mathematics (with
physics as minor subject) and information technology (with physics as
minor subject). The examination board can decide on the permission of
other study courses.
• If the Bachelor degree is not yet available at the closing date for applications
but will be completed before registration, candidates can apply
with a preliminary transcript of records.
• Since courses are presented in English, foreign applicants must pass the
TOEFL Examination with a minimum of 570 points pb, 260 points cb and
88 points ibt or IELTS band 6,5.
