Program Description:

The Gerontology master’s degree program is designed to prepare students who plan to work directly with older people or who will be involved in education or research related to aging issues.

The program provides students with the core competencies identified by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education and draws on the expertise of graduate faculty and graduate courses from several universities. Students completing the program at K-State will earn a master’s degree in Family Studies and Human Services with a Specialization in Gerontology.

The Gerontology graduate certificate program is designed for students whose goal is a credential in gerontology and who do not need a master’s degree. Students are provided with the core competencies identified by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.

This program will prepare professionals who are either working directly with older people or who are involved in education or research related to aging issues. Graduates are often involved in health promotion programs, directing intergenerational activities, managing senior centers or retirement communities, counseling older people and their families, and helping people plan for retirement.
