Program Description:

The Personal Financial Planning master’s degree incorporates macro and microeconomics, finance, financial planning ethics, computer applications of financial data, and counseling skills.

Upon completion of the curriculum, students will earn a Master’s in Family Studies and Human Services degree with an emphasis in Personal Financial Planning and be eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination. The degree also fulfills the educational requirement for these designations: Registered Financial Consultant, Registered Financial Associate, Certified Retirement Counselor, and Accredited Financial Counselor.

he Ph.D. with an emphasis in Personal Financial Planning – the first in the nation to be conducted largely online – was designed for professionals who already have busy careers and substantial roots where they live. Offered through the School of Family Studies and Human Services, the program is composed of a mix of online and residency courses.

The Personal Financial Planning graduate certificate is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board-Registered Program. The program enhances personal financial knowledge and provides accurate and timely information in the key areas of financial planning.

The program prepares students for careers in industry, banking, retirement planning, estate planning, personnel benefits, real estate, insurance, investments, and consumer affairs. Graduates often find rewarding work in corporations or independent firms.
