Program Description:

In order to implement scientific solutions to environmental problems, it is important to understand the processes that impact the planet's surface, its air and water quality, and its natural resources and then establish and execute policies that are politically, socially, and economically feasible. Designed to address this challenge, the part-time graduate program in environmental sciences and policy focuses on the nexus of scientific research and sound policymaking. The program offers a flexible curriculum that allows students to tailor their academic experience to suit their personal needs and interests and provides a comfortable entree to relevant areas of science for students with little scientific background. The program benefits from interactions with federal, state and local agencies, private corporations and non profit organizations. Instructors come with valuable experience in the academic, public, and corporate sectors. The five core courses that provide concentrated study in the primary environmental sciences are Earth Resources and Its Waste Products, Hydrology and Water Resources, Oceanic and Atmospheric Processes, Principles and Methods of Ecology, and Environmental Policymaking and Policy Analysis. Students also take five elective courses that provide rigorous, in-depth exploration of specific topics related to various environmental issues. Designed for working adults, the program offers onsite courses at the Homewood campus in Baltimore and at the Washington, D.C. Center in the evening and on Saturdays. Students may elect to complete eight of ten courses fully online, completing their remaining two courses in intensive three-week formats at a Hopkins location, allowing students outside the geographical area to pursue a degree. In addition, students may elect to pursue an accelerated study path, allowing students to complete the program at a faster pace by taking six to seven courses in one academic year.

International Student Requirements:

International students must submit TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores and a "course-by-course" credential evaluation of your undergraduate transcript performed by an outside evaluation service.
