Program Description:

The Department offers B. A. Hons; M. A. Applied Psychology and Postgraduate Diploma in Counseling Psychology courses. The teaching programs run by the Department have thrust on Applied Psychology with an aim to make the courses more useful from the point of view of employment. These thrust areas are available only in the universities of Bombay and Calcutta. At present the department offers three years B.A. (Hons.) course, two years M.A. course in Applied Psychology with specialization in the areas of Social and Environmental Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Clinical and Counseling Psychology. Psychology as discipline is also taught to the students of B.A. Hons. Course of other disciplines. Besides above programs the Department also runs one year self finance Postgraduate Diploma in Counseling Psychology course. This course is aimed at imparting knowledge of different areas of counseling, give laboratory training in psychological testing for the purpose of diagnoses along with demonstration and teaching of counseling techniques for which a fully equipped Counseling laboratory is available. In addition field training is provided in clinical, social and educational settings. The students are placed in different organizations and agencies for field training.

Furthermore, all Postgraduate Students are required to carry out Field Work and Research Project in respective areas of specialization. Students are give extensive training in Research Methodology and are also given training in Computer Applications in Psychology in order to boost research capabilities. All the students are getting jobs after finishing their respective courses.
