Program Information

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Spurred by urgent scientific and social questions, ranging from environmental concerns to the origin and evolution of the planet, the geosciences are experiencing a remarkable growth and provide excellent career opportunities in a broad range of modern fields in the geosciences, such as geochemistry, geophysics, and oceanography. The Geosciences program covers challenging topics such as:

• Global change
• Water, energy and mineral resources
• Environmental consequences of anthropogenic activities
• Exploring the secrets of the ocean.
Program

Apart from lectures in different fields of geosciences, including oceanography, geochemistry and applied geophysics, a unique component of the program is the field research that includes observational studies on land or on research vessels at sea. A well equipped geochemistry laboratory offers all tools to investigate the composition of geological and biological material, including rocks, sediments, soils, seawater, freshwater, and plant and animal tissues. An ocean laboratory offers access to different experimental facilities and direct access to online-controlled long term deep sea laboratories. For numerical simulations of the often complex processes and their interactions a computing centre (CLAMV) for data visualization and simulations constitutes a virtual laboratory for researchers on the campus.
