Program Information

Degree Offered

Speech-Language Pathology (M.S.) and Teaching Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (M.S.)

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The areas of professional practice for speech-language pathologists are rapidly expanding, as are the types of clients they are expected to serve. In less than two years, our master’s program in speech-language pathology maximizes opportunities for broad clinical experience as well as academic instruction. We prepare students to meet all requirements for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) and for New York State licensure.

Designed for full-time study, the master's in SLP program includes 52 credits of coursework, comprising classes in core areas such as phonological disorders, aphasia, and stuttering, as well as in specialized areas such as swallowing, augmentative and alternative communication, and early intervention. The program concludes with a comprehensive examination that is structured similarly to the national praxis exam. Ithaca College graduates have a long history of performing well on the praxis exam and enjoy excellent career prospects.

Integral to the program are clinical experiences in which you will work directly with clients throughout your program. You'll be well prepared for your final semester, spent in two full-time externships during which you'll experience the rigors and responsibilities of full-time professional work. The department is proud of our outstanding reputation among externship supervisors and employers.
