Program Description:
The TESL/Applied Linguistics faculty is internationally recognized in the field and has extensive experience in instruction and teacher education both in the U.S. and abroad. They contribute significantly to Iowa State's involvement in international research, education, and development, including several in-service summer institutes for ESL teachers and teacher educators from the U.S. and abroad. Students in the program have ample opportunity to gain research experience and teaching skills with native speakers of other languages through three university programs (Intensive English and Orientation Program, English for Native Speakers of Other Languages, and the SPEAK/TEACH program). Graduates of the program find opportunities both in the U.S. and abroad for teaching and administering programs in English in public schools, colleges, universities, language institutes, private companies, and binational centers.
