Program Description:

Our students are prepared as kinesiologists in a positive, supportive environment in which both biological and behavioral contributions to the study of physical activity are examined. Our students also develop strong teaching skills. Areas of emphasis include preparation and research in biomechanics, exercise physiology, exercise psychology, motor control, physical activity and health promotion, pedagogy and applied motor development, or sport sociology. Support areas include food and nutrition, biochemistry, psychology, education, neuroscience, immunology, sociology, and epidemiology. Funding and support are available in the form of teaching and research assistantships, scholarships, research awards for dissertation research, and travel support to conferences. Iowa State University is a doctoral extensive university and a member of the Big 12 Conference. Our doctoral Kinesiology program was rated among the top 20 in the nation by the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Ames is a charming small town with amenities of a big city and was recently ranked among the top small American cities in which to work and live.
