Program Information
Degree Offered
Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology
Format: Campus
Program Description:
The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology's (ITP) Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology is designed to provide students with the theoretical foundations, clinical training, and qualitative and quantitative research necessary to sit for licensure as a psychologist in the State of California. We emphasize both in-depth clinical training and serious scholarly research in the field of clinical psychology.
As an integral part of our training, we also provide education in the nature of spirituality and the transformative process in general, as well as helping students develop skills in assessing a client's spiritual development. The spiritual orientation of our program draws upon and supports research in the field that provides evidence that the presence of spirituality and/or religious affiliation promotes better psychological and physical well-being. We include the wisdom of many different religions, as well as shamanism, consciousness studies, and of course the field of transpersonal psychology as a whole.
In the third year of the program, each student will have the opportunity to design a self-directed year of study in a particular spiritual practice and connected clinical practice. Students will engage in their own practice and a course of reading, as well as appropriately apply chosen spiritually-oriented clinical techniques with clients at their practicum setting. During this year, students will work with an individual faculty mentor for oversight and supervision.
