Program Description:
As one of the top Plant Biology programs in the United States, IU brings together faculty, students, and postdoctoral fellows in the study of plants from the molecular to community level. With more than 20 faculty members participating in the program, practically every sub discipline of plant biology is represented including; biochemistry; molecular biology; cell biology; physiology; development; evolution; population biology; ecology, and systematics. State-of-the-art facilities, include growth chambers, greenhouses and a $3 Botany Experimental Field opened in 2008, enabling scientists to simulate various climates and conditions in a controlled environment. A fine-tuned blend of seminars, journal clubs, and extensive faculty interactions ensure that our students are exposed to a dynamic research environment during their training, while also getting the individual attention to fully develop their scientific potential. Our Ph.D. students are fully supported for at least five years with assistantships or fellowships, and M.A. students are supported for two years. Students choose either a molecular or organismal approach, and apply through the Molecular Biology & Genetics Program or the Evolution, Ecology & Behavior Program.
