Degree Offered

Residential M.S. in Learning and Developmental Sciences, Residential Ph.D in Learning Sciences, Online four-course sequence

Format: Campus, Online

Program Description:

Working side-by-side with scholars, Learning Sciences is attracting top-flight students from around the world to join them in the quest for knowledge, better knowledge about how people learn and how to design ways for people to learn better. The innovative Learning Sciences program meshes great minds and research that matters. Why? Because in today's digital age, learning is moving at light speed, and the faculty of the Learning Sciences program is undertaking and completing world-class research--research that helps us understand how people learn in our rapidly moving, tech-savvy world. From educational consulting and instructional software companies to Fortune 100 companies seeking research specialists, Learning Sciences offers undergraduate students with an interest in psychology, sociology, computer science, math and physics a real opportunity to apply their skills.

Unlike teacher education program which are formally accredited by an external body, there is no accreditation process for the discipline of Learning Sciences. Rather, the value of our degrees is revealed in the world-class status of our faculty and the success of our graduates.

Eligibility Requirements:

IU Learning Sciences has typical requirements for scores on the GRE. However, we welcome students with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. Because most of our residential students are deeply engaged in externally-funded research projects, we are often interested in students with particular disciplinary backgrounds (e.g., math, science, computer science, language arts) who are also deeply interested in learning.

International Student Requirements:

IU Learning Sciences welcome international students, and does not have any particular requirments beyond typical scores on the TOEFL. However, as a language intensive program, spoken and written competence in English in a variety of contexts is necessary.
