Program Description:

Indiana University has a strong history of research in the area of Developmental Biology. Current research in the department carried out in 19 Development labs, is aimed at investigating numerous fundamental developmental processes, including cell signaling, tissue specification, cellular patterning, genome organization, and control of gene expressions, in several model organisms, including Drosphila, Arabidopsis, and Coprinus. Particular strengths are in genetic and genomic approaches and in the evolution of development. Graduate training in Development is via entry into the Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG) graduate program and includes a first-year core curriculum, research rotations, and instruction and lots of practice in critically evaluating scientific literature, writing grants, and giving talks. A faculty mentor and group of advisory faculty train students in how to perform independent, rigorous, and creative research using powerful approaches and state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
