Program Description:

The Indiana University School of Medicine is the state's only medical school. By comparison, Ohio and Illinois each have seven medical schools. The school provides medical education to approximately two-thirds of Indiana's physicians. The main campus is in Indianapolis while eight other centers are located in Fort Wayne, Muncie, Evansville, Gary, South Bend, Terre Haute, Lafayette, and Bloomington. IU educates the second largest medical student body in the U.S. and graduates approximately 300 medical students each year. The school is also the nation's third-largest producer of medical school faculty. That means that the experience our students, residents and interns gain here has far-reaching impact in the training of future generations of physicians. The faculty has performed many "firsts" in Indiana including transplants of the kidney, liver, cornea, bone marrow, pancreas and infant and newborn hearts. More than 1300 research studies are taking place among 25 academic departments and 39 centers and institutes. IU doctors are nationwide leaders in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and state-of-the-art heart valve surgery.
