Program Description:

GENERAL PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics
offers a flexible program in which a student may a combination of linguistics, TESL/TEFL, and Spanish. With extra coursework and one year of teaching experience, this Master's can lead to Indiana licensure in English as a New Language (ENL) or Spanish.

The department also offers a 12 semester hour graduate certificate in teaching English as a second language/teaching English as a foreign language. This is not a degree program. Certificate (in TEFL or TESL) is an internationally recognized term, and many employers in other countries require a certificate of teachers who
don’t hold a master’s degree.
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics
and the College of Education cooperate to offer a doctorate in curriculum and instruction with a specialization in language education for students specializing in the research and practice of second language teaching and teacher education.

International Student Requirements:

International applications must submit the Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), with a minimum score of 550 of the regular paper-based examination, a 213 on the computer-based examination, or 80 on the iBT version. It should be noted that international applicants from English-speaking countries or former British colonies may be exempted from the above TOEFL requirements.
