Program Description:
The graduate program in Music Therapy guides qualified persons in the research and study of how music can be used in health, education, business, industry, and daily living. It seeks to educate the student as a liberal artist who is able to prescribe, create, and analyze music for holistic development. The content and organization of the program relies on a common core of studies which support the philosophical, cultural and aesthetic concepts which are derived from the traditions of western as well as non-western performance practices in music. Those concepts are extended into the practice of Music Therapy and relate directly to advanced research in the discipline.The Certification in Music Therapy has been approved by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).
