Program Description:
The Hydrogeology program focuses on groundwater as a dynamic resource and as a component of environmental science. The program provides a strong theoretical foundation for physical and chemical groundwater flow, practical field experience in collection of hydrogeologic data, and use of software tools (including groundwater and geochemical modeling). Graduates are prepared for careers in the areas of groundwater resources, the environmental protection of those resources, and environmental problems of a hydrogeologic nature, or for advanced study.
Faculty research interests include thermal transport within the hyporheic zone, nutrient cycling in watersheds, water quality in karst systems, ground water dating using dissolved helium.
