Program Description:
Teaching/Track 1: Designed for practicing teachers. Work with others who have a long-term commitment to teaching and who want to learn more about the practice of teaching, to acquire and generate new knowledge, to develop curriculum in collaborative teams, and to assume leadership roles within their schools.
A total of 40 credits are required for this MAT designed for the working teacher. Courses are offered in the evenings during the academic year and at flexible times for teachers during the summer term. All students are required to complete a final thesis.
Teaching/Track 2: Designed for those with an undergraduate degree in the liberal arts and sciences. Complete a teacher licensure program while earning a master's degree. Course work is offered in the fall, spring, and summer semesters, full- or part-time, primarily in the evenings.
Licensure is offered for PK-12 through this program. A total of 40 credits (including the final thesis) plus student teaching (12 credits) are required. Additional courses may be needed as well to fulfill state licensure requirements. Personal counseling from the education department will enable student to know exactly what is required prior to entering the program.
Hollins offers a grant to cover the cost of 12 credit hours for student teaching.

Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university. They must submit transcripts of all course work. A minimum gpa of 3.0 is required. Three letters of recommendation, a statement regarding the applicant's interest in pursuing a career in teaching, an application form, and processing fee are required.

International Student Requirements:
In addition to the requirements for all applicants, international applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit the TOEFL scores and the Proficiency in English form. Additionally, all international applicants are required to submit the Certification of Finances form indicating their capacity to pay tuition, fees, living expenses, and other costs associated with participation in the program.
