Program Information

Degree Offered

M.Sc.- Geotechnical Engineering, Diploma - Geotechnical Engineering

Format: Campus

Program Description:

This course is offered jointly by the Universities of Heriot-Watt and Glasgow, and is recognised as one of the premier courses in the UK for offering advanced up-to-date training in the theory and practice of geotechnical engineering. The two Universities offer complementary expertise and the course has the support of the main Geotechnical Consultants and Contractors in Scotland. The direct role of industry in the course is threefold: through a 5-month industrial-based project, through input to many of the taught modules via a series of Case Studies, and additionally through special seminars, and field and site visits. The course may be taken on a part-time basis and will therefore appeal to practising Engineers who can attend one day per week. Funded places are available through EPSRC Advanced Course Studentships, SAAS Awards, European Social Fund and Panasonic Trust Fellowships. The Course consists of a series of 10 taught modules (eight compulsory and a choice of two from four optional modules), plus a project and dissertation. The taught modules take place in the first two terms and are examined during the first week of the second and third terms. The MSc degree programme can be taken either full-time (1 year) or part-time (2 to 3 years).
