Program Description:
The Center for Middle Eastern Studies was established in 1954 for the purpose of supporting research and teaching in the languages, literatures, history, governments, economics, and cultures of North Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South Asia,with the emphasis on the modern period. At the core of its teaching and research is the pursuit of firsthand knowledge about the Middle East based on literacy in its languages and an understanding of its political and economic realities, its culture and traditions.
