Program Description:

The School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science is offering courses in Genetic Counselling designed to provide students with access to professional careers in Clinical Genetics Services in Medical and Public Health Centres. This is an applied course designed to meet the needs of people who are or will be working in the field of Genetic Counselling. Genetic Counsellors help people make informed decisions and choices regarding issues which arise from genetic conditions. The course aims to facilitate the acquisition of and skills in genetics and counselling at both the theoretical and practical levels

This program provides students with eligibility for professional careers in clinical genetics services in medical and public health centres. The program aims to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills in genetics and counselling (at both the theoretical and practical levels), as well as the development of reflective, ethical practice as appropriate for this field.

The program rests upon the principle of empowerment of people to make informed decisions and choices regarding issues that arise from genetic conditions.
