Degree Offered

Reading, M.A.E.

Format: Campus

Program Description:

MAE-Reading is a 35 semester hour program that includes practicum courses and leads to the completion of the Master of Arts in education. Students typically complete the program in 16-21 months depending on previous individual course work. A Reading Specialist certification may be awarded upon successful completion of degree requirements, state test, and verification of two years of teaching experience. This certification will allow the holder to become a director of Reading in K-12 Illinois public schools. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.

Convenient courses are offered one night a week with the exception of one daytime summer practicum. Students complete the entire program with one group of classmates. The cohort model creates an ideal environment where mature teachers benefit from peer interaction and classroom support. Groups begin the MAE-Reading program at specific start and end dates. Greenville College is approved to offer the program in Belleville, Centralia, Godfrey, Greenville, Lincoln and Olney. Class locations are dependent on student enrollment.

Accreditation:

The College has been accredited since 1947 by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools as an institution granting the bachelor's degree, and since 1996 granting the master's degree. Since 1974-75 the Illinois State Teacher Certification Board has approved the teacher education program. Institutional membership is held in the American Council on Education, the Association of American Colleges, the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, the Federation of Illinois Independent Colleges and Universities, the National Commission of Education, and other professional organizations. It is one of the colleges approved officially by the Free Methodist Church of North America, and is recommended to any members who want to pursue Christian higher education.
