Let us help prepare you for a linguistically diverse population.
According to the College Board, ESL teachers are in demand around the country -- and around the world. The U.S. Department of Education lists English as a Second Language teachers as one of the high-need areas in many states across the nation. Current educators who want to meet that need can earn their master of arts in education with an emphasis in ESL fully online.
In addition to 5 CORE classes, students will complete 6 courses in ESL:
Linguistics for Teaching English as a Second Language
Cross-Cultural Studies for Teaching English as a Second Language
Methods and Materials for Teachers of English as a Second Language
Theoretical Foundations of Second Language Development and Teaching
Assessment and Evaluation for Teaching English as a Second Language
Clinical Experience for Teaching English as a Second Language
For students not wanting a full masters degree, an ESL endorsement program is also available that will allow students to become state qualified to teach English to children of whom English is not their primary language.
Accreditation:
The College has been accredited since 1947 by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools as an institution granting the bachelor's degree, and since 1996 granting the master's degree. Since 1974-75 the Illinois State Teacher Certification Board has approved the teacher education program. Institutional membership is held in the American Council on Education, the Association of American Colleges, the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, the Federation of Illinois Independent Colleges and Universities, the National Commission of Education, and other professional organizations. It is one of the colleges approved officially by the Free Methodist Church of North America, and is recommended to any members who want to pursue Christian higher education
Eligibility Requirements:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited undergraduate institution
A completed Greenville College graduate program application and $30 application fee
Official transcripts from all previously attended educational institutions
Two letters of reference
Copies of all currently held teacher certificates
A written statement of educational philosophy
