Program Description:
The program focuses on the historical, social, theological, and literary analysis of biblical, parabiblical, and extrabiblical texts in order to reconstruct the history, religion, literature, culture, and spirituality of Israel, biblical and post-biblical Judaism, and early Christianity. Training in an appropriate methodology such as archeology, the social sciences, rhetorical analysis, hermeneutical theory, and various kinds of literary criticism. The critical study of primary texts is emphasized, and skill in the appropriate languages, is an indispensable prerequisite.
Eligibility Requirements:
M.A. - GRE: 550, GPA: 3.0
Reading knowledge in one modern foreign language is required by the 3rd semester of coursework.
Ph.D. - GRE: 500, GPA: 3.5
Reading knowledge in primary biblical language, coursework in secondary biblical language, one semester in Biblical Aramaic, and two modern foreign languages are required to move forward to candidacy.
