Format: Campus, Online

Program Description:

The Goddard College MA in Sustainable Business and Communities (SBC) program is distinctive because of its explicit emphasis on the intersection of environmental sustainability, social justice/social responsibility and systems change. This program develops informed change agents who are equipped to find solutions to complex environmental, social, political and economic issues in the business, non-profit and local communities in which they work, volunteer and/or live.

The SBC program is designed for highly motivated adult learners who want to direct the focus of their studies while engaging in creative collaboration with faculty mentors. The SBC is a low-residency program that offers a 2-year Master of Arts degree and 1-year Certificate of Graduate Study. Each semester includes an 8-day on-campus residency in Plainfield, Vermont followed by study from home and on-going interaction with a faculty mentor. Each student has a completely individualized study plan. This assures that each student's academic work is deeply meaningful to their life and relevant to their learning objectives and professional aspirations.

SBC students come from a wide range of life experiences and variety of sectors: public, non-profit, business, NGO, education and civil society. They grapple with tough questions and develop practical action steps. Graduates of the SBC are informed and effective leaders. They are community activists and social entrepreneurs who can envision a just and sustainable world, create restorative and adaptive local solutions, and are equipped to enact those changes.
