M.A. - Teacher Education
Format: Campus, Online
Program Description:
Goddard's Education Program embodies a distinctive approach to the task of educating current and future teachers, school counselors, educational and community leaders. We are dedicated to promoting progressive education through student-centered studies that are individualized, problem-based, inquiry-driven, and grounded in social justice and inclusion.
Our Education Program is a low-residency format, serving adult learners. We begin each semester in authentic learning community at an eight-day residency on our Vermont campus. Faculty advisors serve a small number of students, supporting each student to identify interests and goals in the context of their life; from there a semester study plan evolves. Students then complete their semester's work in their home community.
We offer four education venues: MA in Education (student-designed), MA in Education with a concentration in Community Education or School Counseling; Teacher Education (licensure only or with MA). Public school licensure is available in Art K to 12; Early Childhood Education; Elementary Education; Middle Grade or Secondary English, Social Studies or Science; and School Counseling, k to 12. Faculty members offer a depth of knowledge and experience in various areas, including, leadership and reform, critical pedagogy, ECE dual language, intercultural studies, alternative and placed based education, adult learning. We serve those who work in public schools as well as alternative settings.
