Because of the highly competitive environment and the continuous need for innovative financial services, firms will increasingly base their strategic decisions upon high quality research and quantitatively supported management techniques. Moreover, asset management departments and risk management units will intensively use highly technical models with sound theoretical underpinnings. These developments will spur the demand for economists mastering these financial models and understand the relationships between finance and the macroeconomic and regulatory framework. Most undergraduates in economics and business economics lack this specific mix of skills.
