Program Description:

Master of Science in Kinesiology with Athletic training concentration is a two year post-certification graduate program is designed to provide NATA-BOC Certified Athletic Trainers with the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in the areas of clinical practice, instruction, and research.

The Exercise Science emphasis is designed for students interested in advanced and specialized study in the biophysical aspects of exercise. Through exposure to scientific literature and current research, the program of study focuses on student development in promoting strong scientific inquiry and understanding practical applications of theory. The program produces graduates with the ability to communicate clinical findings to the academic and lay communities and to display critical thinking skills and expertise necessary to plan and conduct independent and creative research.

The vision of this Sports Nutrition Emphasis is to be identified as the first graduate program with an emphasis in sports nutrition at a regionally accredited university in Georgia. The emphasis of this model program will assist graduate students to develop the theoretical knowledge and abilities to become more knowledgeable in sports nutrition. This graduate program will foster each student to think critically, create an ethical philosophy to performance enhancement, and gain knowledge in sports nutrition from a multidisciplinary approach.

The Sport Psychology emphasis is based upon the integration of science and application in performance enhancement and life skill development. This foundation gives students the opportunity to be well grounded in the fundamentals of the scientific process as well as involved in supervised individual and group/team interventions. The program consists of 36 semester credit hours, including course work in research methods, data analysis, individual and team interventions for performance enhancement, team dynamics, life skills interventions, the psychological aspects of elite performance, and the development of a sport psychology consultation private business.

The Coaching Education emphasis is an online program designed for experienced coaches seeking to improve their knowledge and skill base as well as for individuals preparing to enter the coaching field. The program is designed to be completed in four semesters. The program offers totally online courses in performance enhancement, coaching administration, athletic training, and coaching effectiveness. The curriculum follows National Coaching Standards for Level 5 Coaching Status.

The Physical Education concentration is an online program that emphasizes current pedagogical thinking, research, and teacher effectiveness in Physical Education. The goal of the program is to produce master-level instructors who can integrate research and theory into current teaching practices. As a capstone experience, all students will complete an action research project. This program requires 36 semester hours.
