Program Description:

Through classroom and field-based learning experiences, students in the Master of Tourism Administration program prepare for international management positions in tourism, hospitality, sport and event and meeting management. Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital, serves as a vast classroom with immense opportunities for practical experience, professional networking, and career development.

Students concentrate their studies in one of four areas which includes :

* Sustainable Tourism Destination Management
* Event & Meeting Management
* Sport Management
* Hospitality Management

They also have the option to develop individualized concentrations focusing on ecotourism or heritage tourism. The program welcomes students who wish to advance current careers or pursue new careers in the industry.
Students may develop an individualized studies program in an area such as heritage tourism management and ecotourism or may choose one of the two formal concentration areas below.

* The Event and Meeting Management concentration enables students to gain a practical and theoretical understanding of special events, expositions, festivals, conferences, meetings, and celebrations. Experiential learning through internships, field trips, and guest speakers is provided.
* The Sustainable Destination Management concentration focuses on the comparative advantage and competitive positioning of tourist destinations. Emphasis is placed on minimizing the negative impacts of tourism and preserving cultural and natural resources, while optimizing tourism's overall contribution to economic development in host communities.
