Program Description:
The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Science (M.S.) in Biomedical Science (with or without thesis) and the Ph.D. in Integrative Biology, the latter being a joint program with the Department of Biological Sciences in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. Students interested in pursuing the Master of Science (M.S.) in biomedical science may take either the thesis or non-thesis option. The thesis option is oriented towards those students interested in pursuing biomedical research or careers in academia. The non-thesis program is an option for students seeking to solidify their knowledge base in order to apply to appropriate professional schools or pursue careers in industry in the biomedical sciences. The Mission of Research in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine is to provide outstanding teaching, research and service to FAU, State of Florida and beyond. The faculty at the College is engaged in cutting edge research in all fronts of modern biomedical sciences. Research areas include: neurodegenerative diseases, age-related eye diseases, cancer treatments, osteoarthritis treatments, treatments to prevent asthma attacks, infectious diseases and bioterrorism, nicotine addition and cardiovascular disease.
