Program Description:
The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) is a graduate program in teacher preparation for individuals who have a baccalaureate degree in the liberal arts or sciences and a desire to enter the teaching profession. This program is designed to build upon a sound undergraduate academic foundation, as well as the student’s other educational and work-related experiences, to provide an efficient path to state teacher licensure. The program is rigorous in its curriculum and expectations, yet flexible in its scheduling to meet the needs of the graduate student who typically must balance formal coursework with other demands.
The M.A.T. requires completion of thirty-six (36) credits of which twenty-two (22) meet the eligibility requirements for New Jersey teacher certification and fourteen (14) are a combination of required and elective courses.

Fairleigh Dickinson University is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Eligibility Requirements:
* A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution which includes 60 credits in "general education" (liberal arts) courses including at least a 30-credit major in any of the liberal arts or sciences; a course in adolescent psychology for middle school endorsement; and a passing grade on an examination in physiology, hygiene and substance abuse (or three credits in biology, health or nutrition).
* For secondary candidates, a bachelor’s degree with a major (at least 30 credits in a coherent sequence of courses) in the subject area to be taught (e.g., Mathematics, Science, etc.) or at least 30 credits in a coherent sequence of courses in the discipline taught.
* A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
* Passing state required grade on the Praxis Test.
* Successful completion of 22 credits in the approved certification program.
