MA - General-Theoretical Psychology
Program Description:
The general-theoretical program in psychology is intended to provide basic preparation for doctoral-level study in more specialized areas of the field. However, the curriculum is sufficiently flexible to allow for preprofessional concentrations in various areas, i.e., child development, experimental psychology and behavior disorders. The courses offered by the school are designed to meet the needs of students who wish to prepare for service in various scientific and professional areas of psychology, such as research and teaching. In addition, courses in this program should be taken by those students who wish to develop a background for subsequent work leading to a doctorate. Admission Requirements for M.A Program :
1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
2. Applicants must submit an official score report for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), which includes the General Test and the Subject Test in Psychology. (The GRE General Test requirement is waived for applicants who have completed a master's degree.) The schedule of testing dates can be obtained from Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey 08540.
3. Applicants must have taken general psychology, statistics and experimental psy-chology or abnormal psychology on either the undergraduate or graduate level.
4. Students with a score of 650 or above on the Subject Test in Psychology will be exempt from taking PSYC6601 Basic Problems in Psychology and may substitute another course.
5. Three letters of recommendation.
Applicants who have not completed all requirements for admission to the degree program may be permitted to enroll in classes for credit on a nonmatriculated or nondegree basis.
