Program Description:
Fairleigh Dickinson University offers a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Media & Professional Communication effective Spring 2006. The program is offered through University College’s School of Art and Media Studies on the Metropolitan Campus.
The M.A. in Media & Professional Communication is an applied program designed to present working professionals, as well as those planning to enter the professional world, with the latest developments in such areas as mass media gender and diversity related issues, intercultural communication, writing for the media, resume preparation, and oral presentations from a workplace-centered perspective. The M.A. in Media & Professional Communication reflects the Metropolitan Campus’ professional thrust as well as its global focus.
To accommodate students who are in the workplace, all classes are scheduled on weeknights on FDU’s Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck, NJ.
The course offerings reflect the latest developments in media ecology, gender and diversity issues, intellectual property, intercultural communications, writing for the media, and oral presentations from a workplace-centered perspective.
Students complete at least 27 credits of course work and three additional credits for an advanced special project. Courses include building a professional Web site, public relations writing, professional editing, writing proposals and grants, contemporary advertising, effective presentations, media relations and health communication.
This program is also available as a combined degree program. In five years, a student is able to earn a B.A. in communications and an M.A. in media and professional communications.

Fairleigh Dickinson University is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Eligibility Requirements:
1. Students must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 credits in Communication, Media Studies, or a related field and a 3.00 cumulative grade point ratio.
2. Three letters of recommendation.
3. A writing sample.
4. Submission of an official score report for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) taken within the last five years. The GRE/GMAT requirement can be waived for applicants who have completed a master’s degree or higher.
5. Applicants who have not completed all requirements for admission to the degree program may be permitted to enroll in classes for credit on a non-matriculated or non-degree basis.
6. International Students must score a minimum of 575 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination.
