Program Information

Degree Offered

Doctor of Nursing Practice

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Fairfield University's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a clinical doctorate in an advanced specialty of nursing practice. A DNP is comparable to clinical doctorates in other health disciplines such as pharmacy, physical therapy, and medicine. With a DNP, you'll be able to assume a leadership role in an increasingly complex healthcare system during this critical era of healthcare reform.

There are 2 pathways to obtaining a DNP:
1. The BSN-DNP for Family Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, and Nurse Anesthetists
2. A post-master's DNP
The 3 tracks in DNP are:
Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Anesthetists

Unlike a research degree, the DNP focuses on the assessment and application of existing evidence to improve practice. The program culminates in a Practice Dissertation, aimed at creating and measuring the outcomes of a population-based practice innovation. Such an education - the highest level of clinical nursing preparation possible - primes you to care for a cohort of patients within a specialty by using a cross-population perspective to assess, manage, and evaluate healthcare concerns.
