Degree Offered
Master of Arts in Russian and Eurasian Studies, Certificate of Study in Russian and Eurasian Studies
Format: Campus
Program Description:
Whether because of global energy concerns, regional and ethnic conflicts, economic growth, migration, East-West relations, or political unpredictability, the Eurasian space continues to attract international attention. The International MA in Russian and Eurasian Studies (IMARES) at EUSP is designed to meet this strong interest by engaging the many analytical challenges posed therein.
IMARES provides training in the politics, economy, society, and history of Russia and neighboring Eurasian states. It combines the highest standards of teaching in English by Russian and international faculty with the advantages of living in St. Petersburg, Russia's cultural capital. A separate teaching module on Empire and Islam is offered in Kazan, the city where Slavic and Turkic civilizations meet. We offer a comprehensive and varied curriculum.
IMARES, an advanced graduate program for students who already hold a B.A. degree or its equivalent, offers training and research opportunities as well as firsthand experience to get a close feel for Russia and the many other countries in the wider region. In 1998 this program began as M.A. in Russian Studies. More than 200 international students have taken our Russian Studies courses and about 80 M.A. degrees have been awarded.
Over the years the program has hosted many distinguished international faculty. This practice will continue in 2011-2012, complementing our own permanent faculty. Our alumni work in such organizations as the US State Department, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Alfa Bank, Bloomberg, Shell, Carbon Capital Markets Ltd. Others have entered Ph.D. programs at Oxford University, Princeton University, University of Washington, University of Chicago, Heidelberg University and more.
The European University at St. Petersburg is a non-state (private) graduate college set up in 1995 for the purpose of advancing training and research in economics, anthropology, history, political science, sociology and art history. From 1998 it has been offering unique programs in Russian and Eurasian studies to international students.
Openness to the outside world and international cooperation are among the key values of our university. Participation in international research networks and high mobility of the faculty help us to maintain high professional standards. EUSP academic community and its location in one of Europe’s major cultural centers attract professors and students from outside of Russia. EUSP offers several options to those wishing to study and conduct research in St. Petersburg.
Our graduates work in such organizations as the US State Department, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Alfa Bank, Bloomberg, Shell, Carbon Capital Markets Ltd.
