Many Edith Cowan University students choose to study in the external mode because this suits their lifestyle or family and work commitments. No on-campus attendance is required in units offered externally. At present, some 4,000 Edith Cowan University students are studying externally. Many reside in Perth and regional areas of Western Australia. About 40 per cent of the students live in other Australian states and overseas. They are attracted to Edith Cowan University by the quality of the external programme and the professional orientation of such courses as Computer Science, Management Studies, Teacher Librarianship, and Education.
