Program Overview:
The Master in Art with a concentration in Art Education is oriented to teaching of art and leadership in elementary and secondary schools. The Art Education program is designed to provide a deeper social and contextual understanding of the teaching of art and promoting leadership in the schools and within the field of art education through: (1) increasing awareness of the problems facing art education in a variety of settings. (2) developing an aesthetic philosophy that recognizes the humanistic influences of art in the lives of individuals: (3) augmenting awareness through research in art education; and (4) enhancing comprehension and competence in area of human visual expression.

Students who have a baccalaureate degree in art education or other appropriate baccalaureate, and hold certification to teach art, will complete 30 semester hours of graduate work.
