Program Description:

Become a Surgical Assistant and you can enjoy a medical career in surgery within two years. EVMS offers the only accredited Surgical Assistant program that does not require individuals to be trained as a surgical tech. The EVMS Surgical Assistant program is the only pathway for individuals with a four year degree or higher with no medical training to enter the Surgical Assistant medical profession. Due to the current and rapid shortage of General Surgeons in communities across the U.S., there is a growing need to have highly educated, trained and skilled medical professionals assisting in surgery. As a result of the demand in the medical field for Surgical Assistants, EVMS will be expanding the class size from 15 to 24 new students. Applications will be accepted between October 1 and April 1. We encourage you to contact us regarding any questions you may have about our program and the Surgical Assistant profession. You can earn a Graduate Certificate in Surgical Assisting and be certified in just 22 months.
