Program Description:

Ph.D. Program in Biomedical Sciences at EVMS provides inclusive, cutting-edge training in molecular, cellular and integrative biomedical sciences. Students initially complete lecture and laboratory courses spanning the biomedical sciences. Students choose a research laboratory and a specific research area, which is complemented by advanced courses. Under the guidance of selected graduate faculty, the student receives extensive mentoring from a faculty advisor in the area of specialization, culminating in a dissertation project. Areas of research strength include cancer, infectious diseases, immunology, cardiovascular and reproductive physiology, diabetes, obesity and neuroscience. Our graduates are well prepared to translate current findings in basic sciences to application in medical treatment. They enter careers in academia, industry and government, where their interdisciplinary background provides a unique perspective. Students receive a $25,000 annual stipend and health insurance premiums are paid by the program.

Eastern Virginia Medical School is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Doctor of Medicine degree, Masters' degrees, Doctoral degrees, and Certificates.

Eligibility Requirements:

Strongly recommend that applicants also obtain previous laborary research experience and take additional courses in biology, chemistry and physics.
