The MFA in Creative Writing at EKU is an innovative and exciting choice for your studies:

Accreditation:

The MFA Program is housed within the Department of English and Theatre at Eastern Kentucky University, a fully-accredited institution of higher learning located in Richmond, Kentucky. Since its inception in 2007, the program has been an ongoing supporting member of the Association of Writing Programs.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants should submit a portfolio of work in their preferred creative genre, or combination of genres (poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction). Writing samples should be sent directly, as a Word attachment, to the program coordinator at eng.mfa@eku.edu. The writing sample should consist of: 1) Approximately 15 pages of poetry or 20 pages of prose (fiction and creative nonfiction) and 2) A two-page statement of purpose addressing the applicant’s reasons for applying to the program. Requirements for admission are the same as for domestic students. All classes may be taken online, except the student must be able to attend summer and winter residencies in person.
