Program Description:
The Masters of Science in Education involves a minimum of 42 semester hours for the degree and will provide participants with the necessary knowledge and hands-on experience to effectively integrate technology into their classroom and instruction. Addresses all the requisite skills demanded of an individual seeking a position as technology director for a school, school district, or training-based company.
Subscribes a program of study specific to the needs of either: the PK - 12 classroom teacher, or the technology coach or the corporate trainer.
Enhances the value of the graduate to his/her department, school, district, or corporate enterprise.
Expands the range of teaching and learning strategies to better prepare PK - 12 or adult students for the 21st century.
Participants must complete a specially designed program of graduate-level courses described in the Program of Study. The program is offered primarily in an interactive, online environment. While contact between you and other students or faculty may take place at any time, most online interactions will take place in the evening.
The program has been designed to address the demonstrated proficiencies required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for instructional technology. Although we meet each of these nine standards, the purpose of the Masters in Instructional Technology is to meet the technology needs of teachers. The Program goes well beyond these standards by focusing on how technology is used to promote classroom learning. You will learn when to use technology. You will consider how students learn best using technology. You will master the integration of technology into your own learning objectives.

PK - 12 Educator, faculty, administrators, or staff who wants to understand how technology can become a tool for classroom teaching.
Technology Coordinator who wants to learn the vocabulary of classroom teachers to assist them in the application of technology to better serve the student.
Corporate Business Trainer who wants to implement sound teaching strategies in their various training programs.
Higher Education Faculty who must understand the use of technology for teaching so they can share that understanding with their own students.

Eligibility Requirements:
Individuals wishing to enroll in the graduate program must complete the online Application or the paper Application for Admission to the Graduate School of Education. Transcripts from an undergraduate degree must be from an accredited college or university
Undergraduate degree must fulfill one of the criteria below:
A minimum overall 3.00 GPA (grade point average)
A minimum 3.00 GPA on the most recent 48 credits
All international students must receive a score of 550 on the paper version of the TOEFL Exam or a score of 80 on the Internet version of the TOEFL Exam. Results of the IELTS of 7.0 and current to within one year may be submitted as an alternate test. All international students are asked to visit International Admissions for further information.

International Student Requirements:
Same academic requirements as U.S. students. In addition, TOEFL test (Paper based 550 minimum and internet based 80 minimum) must be taken and possibly the Duquesne University English Placement Tests and successful completion of any required English language course work. Letters of recommendation submitted by persons in authority at former university. Financial documentation showing ability to pay for education and living expenses. Student to maintain full time status. Must have major medical coverage.
