Program Description:
The University Program in Structural Biology & Biophysics is an interdisciplinary program offering a Certificate in GraduateStudies. The Ph.D. is awarded by one of the seven participating departments (Biochemistry, BiomedicalEngineering, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Neurobiology, and Pharmacology andMolecular Cancer Biology) from which program faculty members are drawn. Students may apply directly to theProgram; graduate training is administered jointly by the program and the department in which the student pursueshis or her thesis research. Students admitted to the University Program in Molecular Biophysics are generallyconsidered admissible to the participating departments and are free to pursue Ph.D. research in any programlaboratory. The first year of study is devoted to course work and rotations in three laboratories. At the end of the first year, the student chooses a thesis adviser and topic and a department from which to receive the Ph.D. degree. The preliminary examination is taken during the second year.
