MA .-Sports History and Culture, PGDip.-Sports History and Culture
The programme begins by examining the economic history of organised sport in Britain, including the effect of commercialism, professionalism and corporate sponsorship. It then considers social and cultural issues in sport and recreation, such as elite versus mass participation, group subordination and discrimination, and special problems associated with competitve sport - violence, corruption and drug taking. The final section of the programme analyses public policy debates about sport and recreation for a united Europe.
