Program Information
Degree Offered
M.S.- Biomedical Engineering;, Ph.D.- Biomedical Engineering
Program Description:
By nature, biomedical engineering is collaborative and multidisciplinary, focused on problem-solving related to scientific and technical advances in biology and medicine. The synergistic interactions between engineering and medical disciplines extend beyond the solving of specific problems into the actual treatment and diagnosis of disease. This ambiance encourages critical assessments of alternative solutions to problems, and concentrates on the safety, reliability, and efficacy of the device or technology under investigation. Engineers from Thayer School work closely with clinicians at nearby Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DMHC) on numerous cross-disciplinary research collaborations.
