Program Description:

In 2001 Creighton University instituted a Post-Professional OTD program in distance education format to make doctoral level education readily accessible to licensed practitioners who wish to pursue doctoral education. The Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree advocates a commitment to clients and society by inculcating a lifelong commitment to learning, service, and reflective inquiry-based practice. As such, it is in harmony with the values of the profession of Occupational Therapy. The program emphasizes integration of theory and practice from the foundational, professional and clinical sciences, critical self-assessment, clinical reasoning and decision-making skills, advocacy and health policy. The Distance OTD program permits distance learners access to required course work through Web-based technology, print, videotape, and CD-ROM. The professional rotation component of the curriculum is tailored to each individual based on the student's self-assessment of professional competencies. Students may elect to enhance generalist clinical skills or select a focused area for professional study. Whenever possible, professional rotations will be arranged at practice sites in the student's geographic region.
