Program Description:
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program requires thirty-six (36) hours of graduate course work and provides an alternative route to initial teacher certification leading to a masters degree for persons holding a baccalaureatedegree in arts and sciences. Ninety students are presently matriculating. Emphasis is placed on the application of theory and teaching effectiveness, research building on a broad-based background in general studies, knowledgeand experience; and content at the undergraduate level. The program is organized into three phases: 1) core courses, 2) professional courses, and 3) Internship and Seminar. The guiding theme for the program is the "teacher as a reflective facilitator of learning."
