Certificate in TESOL
Program Description:
Columbia University's TESOL Certificate Program is an intensive eight-week session that prepares students to teach in a variety of academic settings. The classes meet during daytime hours and are offered exclusively during the summer. This is a very intensive program and requires a significant commitment of time.
The status of English as an international language and the increasing number of students studying English as a second/foreign language create a need for qualified, well-trained English language teachers. Columbia University’s location in New York City and its commitment to international education create a unique environment for a certificate program in the teaching of English.
The courses reflect current theory and practice and are designed for a broad audience including:
-recent college graduates seeking to prepare themselves to teach English while living or traveling abroad.
-professionals who are contemplating a change of career or returning to work
-current teachers who wish to improve their capacity to meet the needs of the growing number of ESL students in their classrooms
